A+D ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES
Contest + exhibition + illustrated book
A+D is an international project that involved illustrators from all Europe in creating an itinerary of reflection on travel. The contest was open to young artists under 35 years of age, and resulted in an exhibition of the selected works, with an illustrated book to describe a city.
A panel of professionals who work in the field of illustration selected the best nineteen of the three hundred works submitted for an exhibition that took place in Padua and Madrid in 2008. Housewives riding an iron that becomes a boat, men who overcome the boundaries between night and day, the lonely return on a plane that crosses the clouds: here are some of the ways to suggest the infinite possibilities of travel.
Five of the artists who participated in the exhibition were invited to continue with “Citybox London?”, a project for an illustrated book that shows the city in an unconventional way.
To help children discover the topic of travel, workshops were organized for them too, in collaboration with Studio Mai.
